Did I say Belgium was not a Trekkie?

I take it back.

Check out what I found in FNAC today.

I admit I had to think a little bit if I should buy this, I already have the Star Trek DVD after all. In the end I succumbed to the chanting of wantwantwantwant in my head and bought it anyway.

Pictures or it didn't happen... )

After lunch on friday I still worked on the costume plans. I blew them up, using a photocopier, to full size. I then showed them to my mother and we discussed fittings and adapting to my size, as the plans are a size 12 and I'm a size 8. But with no fabric there wasn't a lot I could do. I thought on saturday I might go downtown to check out the cloth stores.

This was until I unwrapped Kirk, put the DVD on the Playstation, sat doll!Kirk on my lap and started watching the DVD. And that was pretty much the rest of my weekend. I didn't touch the computer for more than 24 hours, and even then just to check emails and download extras from the BlueRay version. And then watch it all over again. Rinse and repeat.

I'll work on the costume during the Christmas break, even though my sister has threatened to disown me if I do it. My mother, bless her, saw my enthusiasm, deeply considered the plans and determined they were somewhat complex for a total newbie like me, and a lot of work even for somebody as experienced as her, so she offered to find me an excellent seamstress and have the dress made for me. I resisted bbs. Half the fun (and frustration and screaming and yelling) is doing it yourself.

I even went on Amazon to check for TOS phasers, communicators and tricorders.

It is a slippery slope indeed...

I had already talked about my plans for this last weekend here. I was going to Portugal and I had a few appointments I needed to honour, as well as a boatload of Trekkie stuff I wanted to do.

Friday morning went exactly to plan. I got up early, I took care of paperwork and by 11 am I was at FNAC to buy the Star Trek DVD. The shop was pretty empty, so it was a thing of a few minutes. They had 3 versions: 1 disc edition, 2 disc edition and BlueRay.

There were no fabric shops there, so I went straight for Toys'RUs. I haven't been in one of those shops since the LOTR fandom, when I went looking for the Legolas doll. So I promptly got lost in the midst of so much stuff. But my compass was sharp. In no time I was by the action figures ailles, with Star Wars, Terminator, GI Joe and Star Trek. They had the regular figures in bigger and smaller sizes. I got Kirk in big (no bulge though), but there was no Spock to be seen, except Prime. They had also stuff like the Bridge and Transporter Room for the smaller sized figures.

Standing at the cash register a thought crossed my mind, I went back, found a store employee and sucked it up (all my nerdness that is).

Me: Is this all you have of Star Trek?
Him: Yeah, that's all that's left. They're still not sure if the Trekkie thing is gonna pick up again.
Me (I was going to say that the DVD was only released today, while waving my DVD in his face, but thought better of it.) You know, I really wanted... (I had already decided I was going to say ship, as saying Enterprise would be TOO geek even for me.)
Him: The ship? Yeah, they haven't arrived yet, but plenty of collectors have been asking for it already. We should have a big one (throws arms wide open) like the Falcon, for the small figurines.
Me: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Him: And a smaller one. About the size of those Terminator stuff. (We both turn to check the Terminator shit)
Me: Yes, this size is better. Just a small model is fine.
Him: It should arrive yet. The bigger model costs around 200 euros, the smaller at around 40 euros.
Me: Ok, that's fine. 40 euros is perfect. It's just that you don't have a lot of stuff left. There are no Spocks. (I say as I turn to leave)
Him: *shrugs*

Recounting this conversation with my sister later that afternoon she went "What's a Falcon?" to which I replied "Star Wars, hello?!". She also found hilarious the use of the word "collector" instead of nerd/geek/Trekkie. I agreed that the guy had been extremely diplomatic. :D From now on I'm a "collector". ;D She also warned me that this was another step down the slippery slope of geekdom, but since she's started talking like Sheldon from watching too much The Big Bang Theory, who is she to talk to me about geekdom?
