Oh, what is this? Just what I've been fucking saying since the movie came out? I take everything back. I LOVE YOU CUMBERBATCH! NEVER CHANGE! :)

The Importance of Universe

A few days ago I was reading a Sherlock Holmes fanfic and did a small double take at Holmes being called "the older man". I thought of pointing out the mistake, but just shrugged and moved on.

Shortly afterward, on another fic Holmes is "the smaller man". Here I had to go "what the...". And he had curls... Hmmm. I went back to check the universe of the story and true enough it was a SH'09 universe story. Fair enough.

Funny thing is, that BBC!Holmes, which is a modernization, got that right, but not Ritchie verse. That's telling I think. Like Mark Gatiss said about casting Cumberbatch as Holmes "He looks like Sherlock Holmes. There's no point in chucking the baby out with the bathwater. You can't suddenly decide Sherlock Holmes is three and half foot tall and has a wooden arm or something."

A curious extra is that Gatiss and Moffat compare Holmes and Watson to Kirk and Bones. :)
